The Empire Politics Essays Races Make an Addition! Forum Contact Jeff Jeff's Main Website |
The Energon Empire is a heterogeneous marvel of extragalactic government with beings of every imaginable kind. One must wonder how it is possible that such a varied realm could communicate, much less hold together. Since its beginning, the Empire has held that communication is the key to trade and agreement and so has worked to unify the communication skills of its varied populace. It is an amazing feat, considering that so many of its peoples communicate in very different ways, including languages through sound, physical movements, telepathy, smells, and even electromagnetic signals. To bring the Empire together, all beings are required by law to understand and, in official instances, use a language called Universal. Universal was developed by the Energon Council of Knowledge and Lingual Definition, which used a foundation of the Energon natural language, added untranslatable words from other languages, and, with every effort, kept a concise, logical, easily understandable language (or as nearly as it could be). Public education makes it simple for each being to have access to learning this language. With Universal, all beings can speak to one another, and government and official documentation can be noted in a single tongue. However, not all beings are naturally capable of speaking Universal. For example, some races communicate very differently and do not even possess vocal chords. Fortunately, telepathic technology has stepped in and solved the dilemma. Using thought receivers and sonic transmitters, the beings are capable of speech. Alternatively, sonic receivers and thought transmitters capture the speech and translate the language for naturally deaf beings. There have been some difficulties bringing all of these different languages together. For example, definitions are often very tricky to translate. There was once a horrifying misunderstanding with the Gores over the meaning of the term “accidental homicide”, which led to a frenzy of indirect killings in a series of riotous fights where objects were hurled at random. Fortunately, the Energon Council of Knowledge and Lingual Definition was established to define words and issues, keeping knowledge in an unfettered organized system. While Universal is a handy and common language, it is not the only language in the Empire. Beings still communicate in nearly innumerable different languages, some of which cannot even be recognized as languages by amateur linguists. Beings from across the Empire can communicate in so many different ways that scholars all over the Empire are continually busy studying and cataloging them. |
