Glorbo’s Eat-o-torium:
Food from all over the Empire for all kinds of people
- by Jeff Provine

Long ago, a Zermi named Glorbo Hartovoo loved foods. He loved all kinds of foods, even the appearances of foods that were poisonous to beings like him. Using his love of food and his enjoyment of cooking, he developed Glorbo’s Eat-o-torium as a restaurant featuring intergalactic cuisine. The novelty of the idea of Glorbo’s was that it catered to all races. In the Energon Empire, there are so many varied races that it is nearly impossible even to imagine to serve foods to them all. Only Glorbo’s imagination (or at least appetite) was great enough to create a truly dynamic menu.

The problem with serving to such a variety of peoples is that what some races find as nutritious, others find as poisonous. Some races require arsenic as a key part of their diet (without which their bodies will not function correctly), while other races perish over even the smallest portion of arsenic. Moreover, what some races might consider food, others think of as inedible objects. For example, races of the Bot and Electrical classes consume very differently than other races.

Glorbo’s began in the trade world Yartha, a very busy port the Vuldane Trade Partners, with a single restaurant. In the beginning, the restaurant was nothing more than a novelty where travelers from all over the Pyrus Galaxy could find a good meal at a good price. Glorbo was happy with his single restaurant, having already fulfilled his dream and surrounded himself with delectables from the farthest reaches of the Empire. Everything changed, however, when a Vuldane regular visitor happened to say, “Oh boy, Glorbo, I wish I had a place in every starport.” Glorbo took the idea to heart and his restaurant empire was created. Over the next four decades, Glorbo expanded his restaurant to thousands of times what it once was. He continually reinvested his profits, opened innumerable franchises, and invited investments from companies throughout the Empire. His first goal was to establish a Glorbo’s on every world with a population greater than one billion persons. Once this goal was accomplished, he continued to spread, reaping profits greater than the gross economic product many sectors.

Most hold that the key to Glorbo’s success is his desire to create good food. The uniform Glorbo’s menu offers foods to every race, from fist-sized electric generators for the Electoss to lubricating fluid for robots and Bots to meats to vegetables to rich fertilizers. However, more scholarly suggestion follows that Glorbo has simply filled a need in the Empire, one that calls for a sense of uniformity and commonality like a restaurant in which every race can dine offers. Economic scholars simply call Glorbo a businessman with a sense for inviting regularity and marketing. This reason is clearly plausible as it is difficult to find a citizen of the Energon Empire that does not know at least one of Glorbo’s many jingles or cannot recognize the sign of the glowing G.

A more scientific look at Glorbo’s success is his method of preparation and delivery of food. As Glorbo spread his company, he purchased four worlds, one in each the Energon, Pyrus, Hydrus, and Lapidare Galaxies. On these worlds he built immense kitchen-factories which produce and package foods needed in each of his restaurants. A fleet of Glorbo supply ships deliver the foods throughout the Empire. Then, at the restaurants, the foods go through a final preparation stage and then are served to the customers.

Today, Glorbo has retired from active control of his company. Instead, he allows his hand-selected board of directors to guide his restaurant’s future. Meanwhile, Glorbo spends most of his time using his money for philanthropic undertakings and enjoying his many kitchens.

And remember, always eat at Glorbo’s Eat-o-torium, with the sign of the glowing G.
